JB – try this:
Run your OS in safe mode. To start Safe Mode session, please restart your computer and before Windows starts loading press F8 and hold it until you enter Windows Advanced Options Menu; by using your keyboard choose the following option: Safe Mode with Networking, and let Windows start in Safe Mode. Than download spyware remover, Spyware Doctor or malwarebytes
hey andrew, about 48 hrs ago, my comp was hit by vista intrenet security, and i turned off my comp, now i cant even get to my desktop and the vista security popup is the only thing i can see. so my dad went on the computer for watever reason, he thought that our internet security needed to be renewed so he purchased vista security from the popup. which didnt help, plus required his visa, which we now deactivated.along with that we still cant see the desktop i tried safe mode, and i got the same result, i have no idea wat to do.
hi if you cannot find one or more entries it is OK as you may have otherversion; turn into safe mode as already suggested and repeat your search. download free scanner (SpywareDoctor or other) to make sure nothing left to remove.
hi if you cannot access desktop or any folder you need to remove Vista Internet Security 2010 from another PC; download spyware doctor to free scan and proceed to manual or automated removal of the detected entries as suggested above
I’m not familiar with deleting key registries, but I was wondering if you replace them with different code, or if you delete the registry all together.
well this stupid program installed itself and i ran a windows defender scan and found a trojan and i killed that
then i got spyware doctor had it kill VIS2010
[vista internet security 2010] the fake spyware program
then i deleted manualy all the spyware doctor stuff becuase i do not trust most online anti virus and spyware stuff unless it is AVG
Got the same virus but it has left me with a blank screen so I can’t download the malware as detailed above. Any ideas?
Alright, after PROLONGED searching on the web about this stupid fake program, I found that everyone got infected the same day. It was downloaded onto your computer while you accepted to download a “fake” Windows Update, or that’s what I’ve read and I obviously agreed since I did download an update recently. This is the type of virus that tricks you into paying for a fake Antivirus program by scaring you. After evaluating forums and posts, supposedly, like Andrew said above, after paying for this program (which is the opposite thing you should do) the problems still persist. Also, by turning off your computer, the program will go into berserker mode and actually will start to become a virus by screwing with your settings and all that type of stuff.
All these forums stated I should buy “legit” antivirus software to get rid of this malware, but to someone who doesnt have some cash, that can be a problem.
Luckily, to us computer consumers, there is free, extremely efficient, antivirus software.
I use spybot Search & Destory, which did fix my problem.

I picked up this crappy Vista Security 2010 while on Newsday’s website. Apparently my firewall had suddenly been turned off and I couldn’t get it back on again.
Got back in shape by doing back track to a couple weeks ago and then got new spyware, malware and firewall from Windows.
Hi, i’ve got the same problem, i downloaded spyware doctor but then it said it had to do a “smart update” but when i click this, it always keeps saying that “update failed” and that “the subscription is invalid.please contact support”
???
What do i do??? help please?!!
i downloaded spyware doctor and it removed it, but it wont let me open any programs. It is always asking me where the program is located or what i want to run it with, even if its the .exe file. How can i fix this…?
I havent been able to do much, funny thing i left on the computer to safeguard the open internet tabs that i already had up…. cuz at least i can open things here on my comp.
But chris i have the same problem, with that stupid spyware doctor, and it seems through the virus that each time you try to download something it takes you through this fake pop up, telling you its finished but did nothing.
ima use the download via USB with the spyware doctor, and check back with you guys soon.
Also i might recommonend to maybe give a bit more intricate details of how to use the PC registry and whatnot, i use computers, but not really a pro in that kind of stuff. Thanks
This is a very nasty infection, as most have learned already its not as simple as installing malwarebytes and running it, this infection requires a manual removal.
what are the chances of microsoft releasing a patch or program to rid this program from inexperienced users computers
Could someone put up a step-by-step guideline for deleting it manually? I lucked out by realizing it was fake after I deleted some files that were “infected” but stayed in the “infected” list.
I don’t trust online virus removers and I have no money.
How to open Registry
The registry is a directory path that stores option and settings for windows operating system. The registry allows you to access difficult file to track in the background. All changes that are made in the control panel are stored in the registry. However it is highly recommend to be very careful and certain when making configuration in the registry.
For windows XP
To open registry, go to menu Start and select Runќ.
Type regedit in the opened window and click on “OK”.
For Windows Vista
Click on start and type regedit in the Runќ.
Click on Continue in the next window to open the registry.
Hello I did the manual removal, when I rebooted it was no longer there however not my internet does not work. I get the message “This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set Associations control panel.” What does that mean? because I go to the control panel and search for Set Associations and it can not find anything, how do I get my internet back?
Hello, I followed the directions at the top and manually removed the program. However now when I click on the explorer and firefox icon’s it says “This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association control panel.” Now on my tool bar at the bottom, if I search my internet works. But if I try to start either of them up from an icon that is the message I get. How can I fix the problem, or what is the association I need
hey just wanted to say thanks iv been dealin with this exact thing hopefully it will be fixed soon and i had the prob of nothin bein recognized and big thanks to andrew for that fix.
Thank you so much Andrew for the Exe fix post, I recently removed this Virus and was running into trouble trying to launch programs.
I got hit with this AV.exe virus (on Vista)… i removed the registry keys, then got the “This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action..” error. Then i got http://www.winhelponline.com/fileasso/exefix_vista.zip – ran the registry keys file and all appears to be fine now. – Thanks you guys !
Hello,
I tried deleting the registries but they won’t delete. Could someone please help me!?
Thanks in advance
spybot search & destroy works, it removed it completely with a single scan and fix. try that if this registry stuff got you babbling in rage.
I used Ad-Aware and it picked up on it and removed it but then it came back. My sister has been using the social network “Tag” which both times the AIV2010 popped up she was on that site. I told her not to go there anymore and since then nothing has popped up about it. So I’m seeing if Ad-aware is really removing it. I trust Ad-Aware 100% it’s been around forever and works really great with FireFox. If you want something thats free and does a good job I’d suggest that. Lavasoft.com If not Idk I don’t really know any other good ones I used ad-aware because family members and friends use it so I go with what I know. Good luck everyone hope it works out.
does anyone know how this virus actually infects computers? I got it even though i am running an up to date version of MSE and use Firefox.
I got rid of it manually, wanted to let everyone know that the virus sets itself as a system file so it will not show up in explorer or in searches unless you view system files.
Here is a quick and easy way to fix this stuff.
A couple things I noticed that can become a life saver here. It seems that this junk locks down Internet Explorer but not Safari. So those of you who have iTunes installed with Safari, you should be able to access the internet with Safari. I was able to. Then you can download Malware Bytes..
Then this nasty deal will block you from running the .exe to install. To fix this, you will need to copy and paste the following without the quotes:
“Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\open\command]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile\shell\open\command]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@=”exefile”
“Content Type”=”application/x-msdownload”
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile]”
Into WordPad and save the file not as a .txt but a.reg file. For example fixexe.reg
Then when you run that file, your registry will be fixed to allow exe files to run again. Then you can install Malware Bytes. After Malware Bytes is installed you will want to make sure you have the latest version. Make sure you “Check For Updates” then run a quick scan.. (Full scan is not needed)
The Malware Bytes scan will find this nastiness. Click Remove Selected and your computer will req. a reboot. You should be good to go from there.
What happens if you payed for the vista internet security 2010 and it still does not work? Is it just a scam and I just lost 60$?
Hi Andrew
I’ve been stupid and got conned with this sucker. I panicked after not being able to log back into the internet and as my Norton was coming to an end, thinking this was a genuine product, I purchased it STUPID ME!!!!
I’ve been tearing my hair out with this. Tonight I finally thought I’d bite the bullet and try to remove the reg keys. If I messed it up then I’d have to live with it. I could not find any of the reg keys you have listed in your posts above. Does this mean ‘I’ve got away with it’. I did download anti-malware and tried Spyware Doctor which in turn was not free but the only things that found was low level threats and not what I expected. After what happened previously, I was reluctant to purchase this product.
The only thing I did was restore my computer to a previous time. Your comments would be much appreciated as I am about to put my computer back to Factory settings as a last resort.
Thanks Nicky
do you delete the reg keys or modify them? if you modify them then do you modify the name or the value data? please hurry with a response someone because i need my computer’s full functionality asap…thanks in advance!
I need HELP! I had the Total Vista Security error popped up on my computer and it forced me to purchase a security plan for 49.95 I thought this was a legit security option for my computer. After purchasing the product it let me have access to my internet again but after a few days another error popped up and was forcing me to purchase yet another security option. Since then I have reset my computer back to it’s original settings which worked but what now? Am I out of my 50 bucks and would anyone recommend me cancelling my debit card? Please let me know thanks!
Mira Canel you debit card NOW!!! They are doing this to try to get your debit card number and will possible use it. Talk to your bank about what has happened as well they will be able to advise you in what to do.

Hi Andrew,
I cannot find av.exe or WRblt8464P in the expected folder or anywhere else to delete them. Are they hidden? How can I un-hide is so?
Can I proceed with the key deletions? And, will those key deletions have any unintended consequences?
Regards,
JB
