Alright, so Ive changed my registry multiple times using multiple methods (including the one listed here) and I have still not been able to run an exe file without the malware (doa.exe in my case) taking over. Really confused as somehow my changes in the registry have not affected its behavior in my system.

Pretty sure Im infected with the ’10 one. Ive run my own anti-spyware/anti-malware (Search & Destroy and Ewido respectably) as well as the usual norton (all were updated)

Any ideas?

Thank you so much, you’ve saved me a whole lot of trouble. Very easily explained and it’s totally gone from my computer as well as tons of other stuff my former anti-virus program couldn’t catch.

To fix exe files running in Vista follow this steps:
1. Go to this site:
http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/File-association-fixes-for-Windows-Vista.html
2. Click on the exe in the box.
3. Download the exefix_Vista.zip file to your desktop.
4. Follow the rest of the Usage instructions at the site.

To Fix exe in XP

Two options. One is to run a system restore to a date right before the
crash. Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore.

The second is to run the .exe file association fix on Doug Knox’s site:
http://www.dougknox.com/. Go to Win XP Fixes section, then File
Association Fixes, Exe File Association Fix.
